Summary
The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) has completed its review of renewal applications from interstate commercial motor vehicle (CMV) drivers seeking continued exemption from the hearing requirement. Following this evaluation, the Agency has granted new 2-year exemptions consistent with its policy of aligning medical exemptions with the standard medical certification cycle.
Exemptions Effective April 21, 2025
FMCSA has renewed exemptions for the following 15 drivers:
- Ivan Batista (NJ)
- Prince K. Bempong (MA)
- Richard Boggs (OH)
- Keith Byrd (TN)
- Joshua Cogan (MD)
- Joseph Conversa (IL)
- Brandon Hester (TX)
- Paradise Larizza (CA)
- Reynaldo Martinez (TX)
- Floyd McClain (OH)
- Dustin R. Miller (MI)
- David Sanders (IL)
- Jesse Shelander (TX)
- John Turner, III (CO)
- Brandon Veronie (LA)
These exemptions are effective April 21, 2025, and expire April 21, 2027.
Exemptions Effective April 26, 2025
FMCSA has also renewed exemptions for the following two drivers:
- Freddy Lopez Hernandez (TX)
- Martin Vorpahl (WI)
These exemptions are effective April 26, 2025, and expire April 26, 2027.
Exemption Validity
Each exemption remains valid for a period of two years from its effective date unless revoked earlier. FMCSA may revoke an exemption if the driver does not meet the required conditions, if safety is reduced as a result of the exemption, or if continuing the exemption no longer aligns with FMCSA’s safety objectives.
