Jesse Shelander: Vice President
A proud native of Texas, Jesse Shelander graduated from the Texas School for the Deaf in 1996. Following his graduation, he pursued specialized training in construction equipment operation and commercial driving through Texas A&M University. This education laid the foundation for a professional career that has spanned more than two decades across the mining and construction sectors. Throughout this time, he has served as both a heavy equipment operator and a hauling truck driver, demonstrating a strong work ethic, technical expertise, and a deep commitment to his field.
Beyond his professional life, he is deeply connected to nature and enjoys a variety of outdoor activities. His personal interests include hunting, fishing, and horseback riding, pastimes that reflect his love for the outdoors and traditional Texan values. He also cherishes time spent with family, especially camping trips and traveling adventures that allow for quality bonding experiences. Since marrying in 2011, he and his wife have built a loving home together and are raising their young daughter with a strong sense of community, culture, and perseverance.
His dedication to the Deaf community, particularly Deaf professionals in the trucking industry, has been evident since the early days of Deaf Truckers United (DTU). As one of the early advocates for Deaf truckers, he worked closely with the organization’s founders and has remained a loyal and active supporter of DTU since February 2011. His long-standing involvement underscores his passion for advancing accessibility, representation, and equality for Deaf individuals in the commercial driving and transportation sectors.
