Jim’s Deaf Journey From Tennessee

Meet Jim Moore, Jr., a Commercial Deaf/Hard of Hearing truck driver from Tennessee. Jim has achieved the significant accomplishment of obtaining a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), an achievement that remains relatively rare within the Deaf community due to the challenges and barriers often faced in the trucking industry.


In sharing his personal journey, Jim reflects on his background and the experiences that shaped his path to becoming a professional truck driver. He discusses the determination and dedication required to complete CDL training, as well as the strategies he developed to overcome communication barriers in a field where clear and timely interaction is critical.

Jim also explains how he successfully navigates life on the road, describing the methods and tools he uses to communicate effectively while traveling.
